12 Bottle Mixed - Bodega 202 Aistear & Ansa
6 bottles of AISTEAR 2016
Luis calls this his “mosaic wine” – the wine that’s created from the myriad tiny plots of high-altitude, old-vine Tempranillo the winery owns in around the villages of Labastida, Lanciego and Cripán. More concentration than the Crianza, and the same time in oak, but this time almost all French oak, and 50% new barriques. Aromatic on the nose, with violets and vanilla to the fore. Very fresh and clean on the palate; more complexity, and with noticeable tannins and good acidity. The oak is elegant and restrained, with the fruit still dominating.
6 bottles of ANSA 2016
The flagship wine of the bodega (Ansa means “most beloved” in Gaelic); the fruit comes from vineyards in the highest parts of Elvillar and Lanciego, and from 70 to 100-year-old vines. The old-vine concentration is immediately apparent, but there’s no hint of heaviness. Each parcel is vinified separately, and is aged for a minimum of 12 months in 100% new French barriques before assemblage. The nose is fresh, and surprisingly, the wine has absorbed most of the new oak. Red and black fruits are both evident, as well as herbal and floral notes. The palate exhibits pronounced minerality and complexity, and the structure to ensure further development.
