For this week’s white and rosé case, we have gone for timeless classics; two bottles each of these essential summer wines. We have Spain’s Albariño; Italy’s Gavi, and from France; Sancerre; Chablis; White Burgundy and our own fabulous Provence Rosé. As always, some of the wines are in short supply, so when we run out of one of them, we’ll put together new cases. Don’t miss out!
Albariño Ambar Granbazan 2018
This is a cut above standard Albariño, including Granbazan’s lower-priced offering. With ripe stone fruits on the nose, there’s a real richness to this wine from one of the oldest Albariño producers.
Gavi Tenuta del Melo 2019
Gavi first captured the world’s attention in the 1990s and it hasn’t looked back. This stylish, almost chalky dry white from the Cortese grape is both moreishly drinkable and full of Italian character.
Sancerre Blanc La Guiberte Domaine Alain Gueneau 2018
Elisa Gueneau makes wonderful Sancerre. We have been shipping it now for over five years and it is always our biggest selling white wine. Cool restrained Sauvignon Blanc for warm summer evenings!
Chablis Fournillon 2016
Chablis should represent Chardonnay at its most mineral and steely. Many don’t, as they try to ape New World styles, but this is proper Chablis; screaming out for a handful of shellfish or oysters.
Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée des Ormes Sylvain Dussort 2017
As a contrast, Sylvain Dussort’s Chardonnay comes from the Côte d’Or and it shows. Richer, fatter and with a well-judged touch of oak, this is a wine that really needs food and good company.
Chateau Pigoudet Classic Rosé 2019
Our Provence Rosé is the ultimate wine for the summer; bone-dry, with attractive red fruit and the palest colour imaginable. Also, it’s so beautifully packaged, everyone will think it cost a fortune!
