Giuseppe Cortese Wine Dinner at Fox Fine Wines - Tuesday 3rd November at 6.30pm
There are not many Barbaresco producers whose names are linked with just a single cru, and far fewer that are linked with a cru as prestigious as Rabajà, arguably the finest vineyard in Barbaresco, and one of the finest in all Piedmonte. Giuseppe Cortese has no less than 9 hectares in Rabajà; by far the largest vineyard holding, and a massive area in this region of tiny plots of vines.
Whilst most of Giuseppe Cortese’s Nebbiolo vines are planted in Rabajà, their Barbera, Dolcetto and Chardonnay are planted on the other side of the valley in the Trifolera cru. Here the exposures are less favourable for the late-ripening Nebbiolo, but perfect for earlier-maturing varieties.
Giuseppe Cortese set up the winery in 1971, although the family already owned most of the vineyards, and with his wife, Rosella, is still involved in the running of the business. Giuseppe’s son, Pier Carlo, now makes the wines, and his son-in-law, Gabriele Ochetti spreads the word around the world. Gabriele will be at Fox Fine Wines to present a range of Giuseppe Cortese’s wonderful wines alongside a menu designed by our Chef Marcel.
Not one to miss out on!
