As head winemaker at Chateau Montelena, Mike Grgich crafted the 1973 Chardonnay that beat all the white Burgundies in the famous Judgement of Paris tasting that helped propel the Californian wine trade to where it is today.
In 1977 he set up Grgich Hills with Austin Hills and was involved with the estate up to his passing in 2023. (at the age of 100). Not bad for a Croatian immigrant who arrived in the States with $30 and a winemaking degree
Mike’s daughter Violet is now in charge of the winery, with nephew Ivo Jeramy winemaker. Ivo’s daughter, Maja, is export director and will be over to talk us through this brilliant range of Napa Classics from what is still one of the leading wineries in the region.
