Meerlust is the next in-store producer tasting at our East Dulwich branch!

Owner Hannes Myburgh is the 8th generation of the Myburgh family to own the historic Meerlust estate in Stellenbosch. Wine has been produced here since 1756 (for as long as at most Bordeaux Chateaux), but that certainly doesn’t mean that the estate is stuck in the past.

In 1980 Hannes’ father Nico first produced Meerlust Rubicon; the flagship Bordeaux blend that represented a new direction for Stellenbosch, and South African wine in general, and which has spawned many imitators. The name of the wine predates P. W. Botha’s famous ‘crossing the Rubicon’ speech, but its origin is the same; after the Rubicon was crossed, there was no turning back.
